Legal Eagle

legal eagle 2

Legal Eagle is a fun Youtube channel run by Devin Stone who is actually a real lawyer. The content breaks down political and fun issues into digestible and thought provoking videos. For us, the key is that Devin does seem to go by what the law states rather than what online or politics dictate, which a refreshing change.

We have been watching the channel for a while and as a quick article wanted to figure out if Legal Eagle can grow more.

Legal Eagle positives and negatives

Legal Eagle has the following:

  • Has been a guest on other high profile channels
  • specific social sites (113k following on X.com)
  • 3.21 million subscribers
  • 607 videos
  • about 1 million average viewership with the max being 11 million
  • people seem to be enjoying the related videos (Real Lawyer reacts to TV/ Movie/ Reddit content)

Are there any negatives? Now remember this is not against Legal Eagle but showing that we care, its a cool channel, so how can it (maybe) become better?

For us, it could be the following:

  • Devin. Similar to Gary Vee here. Legal Eagle is Devin, so is the channel without Devin still the same channel?
  • The videos are consistently law based, which is cool, but we watch it when a topic of interest comes up that we enjoy. We don't necessarily watch all the videos because we are not too concerned or interested in that. This might explain why video view bumps occurs because people are listening to something that they know/ want more information about

Now these are kinda minor, but then we have to look at what could grow Legal Eagle, and for us that seems to be a stand out issue.

How can Legal Eagle grow more?

There are a couple of things that we can see that could help out LE.

1. We like the idea that they have an Eagle Team. Seems like they can analyse your problem and help you out for free. This is a really good idea and surely that can grow and grow as long as you can keep up with the work that is bound to increase in time. But we noticed that, just like Gary Vee, is it just Devin or a team? Now it states a team but who are the team? It would be nice to:

  • meet said team. We thought it was just you and a group who goes through cases, but it seems like if you are a lawyer then you can join the team
  • their background. Do they pass the Devin test? How are you assessing them? What were hoops that they went through to join your team? So in the worker comp area there is text to state: "And our lawyers can..." So these are your lawyers, so it would be nice to see them and have backgrounds
  • your successes- how do you measure these, cases won, money returned, satisfaction chart?

These points addresses the issue of trust. Now you have testimonials, which is great, but can you go one step further and have a look at the background of your team?

2. Behind the scenes. Some channels have a XYZ plus etc. Would it be nice to see what happens with Devin when not on Youtube. Again, lets meet the team. Lets chat about cases, how you prepare...even doing walk and talks.

3. Clothing. Sounds odd but people do search for Legal Eagle clothing/ suits. Be nice to answer that with maybe a set of ties clothing range. We don't see any products listed for sale, hats and mugs might not portray the professionalism you want, but business attire might

4. Youtube TV. Now this might not be a good idea but it might be. Can you create a show with discussing your version of a Judge Judy but being very specific in your expertise. Again this will shift the professionalism up a notch if you only saw cases people who weren't suing each other over a broken cooker.

5. Is there any way to create videos on certain topics that cover what you are "promoting". So data breech. There are tons of content in the media about this, can you react to it and then funnel people to your data breech Legal Eagle Team section only? This could be useful for the other products that you have.

6- Didn't know about your courses. When you find it (in the info area) you go to, say Law School Head Start:

legal eagle

It doesnt necessarily make me want to buy if I didnt know who Devin was. You are not at the top- where you should be to give the course credibility before you read anything. But there are:

  • no testimonials
  • video?! You need video here
  • "My course will answer all the questions you still have after you’ve read all the other prep materials. You’ll finish the course with all of your questions answered and a clear map on how to achieve your law school dreams." Doesnt make too much sense. What questions are the most common?
  • How to crush the LSAT- like give us some teasers
  • "I’m a practising lawyer who crushed law school by ignoring conventional wisdom, so let me be brutally honest: most of that stuff is not really all that helpful". Like what stuff, what score did you get?
  • Its through Teachable. So you might need to state that, so that there are no surprises, and give a little overview of Teachable to increase trust/ credibility.

So again, with targeting videos, can you create videos/ content that target these courses? Discuss with lecturers the entrance exam, students, past course attendees?

As usual, we wish Legal Eagle all the best
