A Cool Way To Find Free Music For Youtube Shorts (Or TikTok). Plus A Bonus Vote On Your Music

Most of the music for Youtube Shorts comes from Youtubes library. Unfortunately you can not directly upload to this service, you need to go through a third party.

But have you also noticed something else?

Youtube is now dabbling with the idea of using AI to generate music.

If this is the case then your income stream- or promotion from Youtube Shorts is going to have a life span.

So what do you do?

1. Free music for Youtube Shorts? Other people are looking as well.

The Youtube library is extensive but also commonly used. I have noticed multiple amounts of the same song being used over multiple videos. Which is cool for the artists but how personable does it become for the Youtuber?

If you are the musician then the best way forward is to find Youtubers who want your style of music and then partner with them.

Visual art loves music and when the two come together then it promotes both worlds.

As a musician you get free promotion and as the Youtuber you get a more sticky video- with some personalisation. Plus you also get some of the musicians audience and vice versa. Both arts get advertised.

2. Do it yourself 1

Online you can find sample libraries that are free to use and free to edit. Obviously you must make sure that the website you use does- there can be some dodgy ones out there. But you can find long piano pieces, long guitar and drum pieces in every style that you like.

The following screen grab is from Looperman.com. We just looked up Mandolin loops. The sample is 15 seconds long

With a loop you can only play that loop as it is. Like a drum loop- you just play the drum loop. But what happens when you add a drum loop to a bass loop? Or a vocal loop to a drum beat? How about chopping up a synth loop and then make it go in time with the drum?

It is very simple to do and you can create small 10-30 second songs with this method. Here is one that we used a virtual instrument, and a couple of drum loops:

They can be as "basic" as you want. Here is a virtual instrument loaded in twice and it gives us a bass line and a high synth line:

And where do we get virtual instruments (VSTs)? Online, they can be free and offer some very powerful features.

At Jasonera we put together how you can make your own music, put together samples, how to create drum loops and make pro music- the above Youtube Shorts were our music ;)

In a few hours we created 7 pieces.

You could also create your own sample library, own Shorts library in a very small amount of time.

Sites that help you distribute your songs: Distrokid, CD Baby, TuneCore

Bonus?

Ooh, nearly forgot. Youtube tells you how long people have viewed your Short (like with most videos). If you put your music into a short then you will figure out which tune people like more. Some of ours are getting 150% replaying. In other words, people are playing it more than once. Other are getting 30% playing- meaning they like the start but not further.

It's free testing of your music.

This is great for you because it tells you what people like to listen to. Just recreate the longer played tracks with tweaks.
