Charlie Chang is a Youtube entrepreneur who makes around $2 million/ year through Youtube. How is this done? Well in some video he actually breaks down his income:
Now, the income seems to match the "Youtube" income, but contains some Youtubeless income streams. However, here they are all listed:
His latest channel (142 subscribers) is a recruitment agency which will eventually become another source of income.
Charlies videos are getting a very respectable 1-3 million views off 1.8 million subscribers from the main channel. The other 5 channels are much lower- anywhere from 70 to 50k subscribers. The 50k sub channel is about startups- which is in the similar vein to his main channel.
The whole idea though is not the amount of channels but Charlie. Charlie is the brand. The more you can promote Charlie as the entrepreneur then that fuels the main channel which then fuels the brand.
You can see this with his sources of income, they are very related. So:
Real Estate buying/ selling mixes very well with mortgage finding which helps to find a fixerupper rental property. They roll together. But each one helps the other. If you are a broker then people are going to trust you in their property purchase and quite probably in their financial help as well.
This multi-pronged approach works well with Youtube.
Talk about money making/ how people make their money. Find products which are in the same niche for what people might need (affiliate sales). Brands come a looking especially if you have done some magazine work for their agencies. Now you have sponsorships. With more visits you get more people viewing your videos which increases the reputation of the brand and the channel. This increases sponsorship revenue and also starts to kick in to Adsense. Due to the subject matter Adsense will be high. Now you can promote your own products preferable:
Ultimately this is called leverage.
You leverage everything for a specific purpose and you multi-prong it. So like above, you have one idea and then you break out what that idea can give.
So.
Youtube Videos. You just do not make Youtube videos. It is the one main failure of Youtubers. Because, at the end of the day, people move on, so that Youtube video is a gateway to other things. Other things that can be more long term then just you. So the power of Youtube is create an audience and that is probably your ultimate goal- to build an audience and find different ways to communicate with them and stay in touch. So videos will:
Would you care if Charlie Chang sold a course if he didnt have the views and marketing that he has got?
Of course not.
It is down to trust.
So the only way to promote "Charlie" is for Charlie to promote himself. And his main Youtube channel is clearly a "how to make it online" by creating videos on how to make it online. That also rings a bell for people looking through Youtube. The most popular videos:
Key to video success? Find what is cool, do a video about it, redo the subject a little so you can squeeze more info and videos from it. So there are:
A lot of Youtubers do this. They figure out what is "hot" in the news or they find what videos are gaining the most views and they do their own version of it. Then they keep on tweaking the video format to see what makes the video better or worse. They then copy and paste that formula. Why do you think MrBeast has multiple give money to random people videos? Or 0-$1million items/ food. It is what people wanted to watch and because of the stats you get (how many people subscribed/ unsubscribed, views etc) you will know which ones to emulate again.
All the while trying to generate a multi-pronged approach to your videos.
As always we wish Charlie Chang all the best. If you want to find more updates, check out the Jasonera blog here.
