How One Blogger Uses SendOwl To Sell Ebooks
This article is based upon BloggingHerWay and how they use Sendowl to sell ebooks. This was done with a subscriber list of around 250 and generating $155 sales in the first week.
SendOwl is very similar to other third party websites that offer to handle everything for you.
The overview of the article?
- Idea Generation: Select a topic that aligns with your expertise and addresses a demand among your audience. Utilize tools like Google Analytics to identify popular content areas, or engage directly with your readers through surveys to pinpoint their interests.
- Outlining: Develop a structured outline to organize your thoughts and ensure a logical flow of information. This framework will guide your writing process and help maintain focus.
- Writing: With the outline as a roadmap, proceed to write the content of your ebook. Concentrate on delivering value without unnecessary filler, and consider having someone proofread your work to catch any errors.
- Design and Formatting: After writing, format your ebook to ensure it is visually appealing and professional. Tools like Canva can be useful for designing the layout and cover.
- Selling Platform: Choose a platform to sell and distribute your ebook. The author recommends SendOwl for its user-friendly interface and efficient delivery system.
- Launching: Promote your ebook through various channels, such as your blog, email list, and social media, to reach a wider audience and drive sales.
Aaaaand?
- Most people are making their ebook covers and promotional visuals through Canva. If you want a cool looking book- inside, then Canva is great. Word is fine for "normal" ebooks.
- Like with almost all third party companies, you have to drive traffic to your offer. Amazon and Clickbank and somewhat Gumroad are slightly different because the more sales you get the better their internal machines improve your ranking in their charts. In this case the author already had a subscriber list- highly likely interacting with them as the ebook building process continued. But they also, again highly likely, used social media and blogging to increase subscriber count and direct linking to the offer.
- Using SendOwl, they set up an affiliate program. They also set the commission at 40%. This is OK for some affiliates but many want 50% and above. Also to note, it can be difficult to recruit affiliates for a product- it's not as easy as some make out. They also want email templates, banners, graphics etc to help them sell.
SendOwl?
Its a platform that allows you to send digital products- not just ebooks. It has its positives and negatives. Here is a review from Vault50:
The Pros (and remember pros and cons are at the time of writing):
- Ease of Use: SendOwl's intuitive interface simplifies the setup process
- Integration Capabilities: The platform seamlessly integrates with various e-commerce tools, email marketing services, and payment gateways
- Secure Digital Delivery: SendOwl ensures customers receive their digital purchases securely, offering features like PDF stamping
- Affordable Pricing: At the moment, it is a monthly subscription. With plans starting as low as $9 per month
- Comprehensive Feature Set: The platform supports the usual set of features: various product types, including digital downloads, subscriptions, and online courses, and offers functionalities like upsells, cart abandonment notifications, and affiliate management.
And then the Cons:
- Limited Storefront Capabilities: SendOwl's built-in storefront can display a maximum of 10 products
- Lack of Community Features: The platform does not offer built-in community features for online courses, necessitating the use of external platforms like Facebook groups or Discord for community engagement.
- Potential Learning Curve: While basic features are user-friendly, some advanced functionalities, particularly in analytics and reporting, may require a steeper learning curve. This however seems to go against some of the reviews that state it is easy to set up and run
- Dependence on External Websites: To effectively showcase and sell products, users often need to integrate SendOwl with their own websites, as the platform's standalone capabilities are limited. However, this is not that rare or an issue as many people like the idea of integration within their website rather than sending offsite
- Perceived Lack of Updates: Some users have expressed concerns about the platform's development pace
