The 5 Best Online Selling Ideas With Way More Steps Than You Are Lead To Believe

online selling ideas

This best online selling ideas post came from seeing tons of the 2024/2025/name your year posts. It is a good way to recycle content- by adding a year after it. But sometimes the original idea is flawed.

So below are the most common eProduct selling ideas and why they can be really bad to start. And we are only going to do 5.

And before we even get started:

If something is easy then it is going to gather competition. If that idea is also promoted, guess what is going to happen? Yep, even more competition.

The start of the online selling ideas. #1. Launch an online marketing consultancy

So, you have little idea of what to start so you then start an online marketing consultancy on how to be successful online. There seems to be a flaw in that logic somewhere.

Successful agencies rely heavy on being really good at something specific. Then they hire in people to increase their agency's reach.

So tweak this idea that way. Find some part of the online sector that you really like. If you enjoy Youtube then find out everything you need to know about Youtube- like XY and Z of Youtube. Find a video that you enjoy and then do some marketing for that for free.

Build up your portfolio and then you can state what you have done. Actually finding out what that video accomplished is much better than saying you brought in 10k more viewers. If you state those 10k views translated into 6k direct sales then that is worth it's weight in gold.

#2. Affiliate marketing

Every year and almost every post we get this little chestnut come along. It is by far the most oversimplified marketing you can ever read. One post read- and nothing else:

Find an affiliate program, market it and then earn thousands a month in sales without touching a product.

No, and no some more. The basics of affiliate marketing can be found here. The 2 ways for affiliate marketing at the end of the day.

  1. Pay for people to come to your offer
  2. Build content for people to read/ see and then show your offer.

Each has its own plus and minuses. But to assume that you can click and sell is just not right at all.

#3. Offer freelance writing

This one is very grey- especially with the advent of AI. Freelance writing used to be very profitable. But now, it is less so. There's so many people doing it that your prices will be quite low. Also there are other things to think of first:

  • You need to be known or have an amount of work already proving something. Sign-up to Medium.com and write something. Get views or some sort of action that your words have done. I had someone ask about how they can be successful in writing online. They were going to go to college for it. We said- do something now, just write something, prove that people will comment and read your work. Can your words do something for the company/ person? When you come out of college you will already have a portfolio of people and companies that you have helped.
  • Don't race to the bottom of the price structure. If you can prove your worth then you will be able to charge higher
  • Be specific and target offline companies to increase their online presence
  • AI. It is present and can do your writing job for free and be quite competent at it. AI can't give large amounts of information without being prompted. And even then you don't know if it is true or accurate for that topic. As a writer you need to go above and beyond with tables/ facts/ figures and examples for the same job to be able to take on AI

#4. Create a blog

online selling ideas 2

Write something that you know like, enjoy, blah blah. Most of the time they:

  • Won't have the audience you require to continue years down the line
  • It won't be profitable enough with the topic that you have chosen
  • There can be an expense requirement depending upon how you start
  • You might not like doing a blog. Video, very short form- X.com, Pictures- Pinterest might be a better bet and offer a far more lucrative avenue.

If you are going to blog then have a plan. What will you write about? Are you within that audience already? What audience do you hang around with or blog you look at the most when you go online? That can be the start. Then you can get a feel of what people like to read and comment on. You can also identify potential sources of income.

#5 Make an online course

Ah, knew we would come to this one. This, like affiliate marketing, has so many steps missing that it could be classed as a slide.

"If you know something then sell it online"

Right...

  • There is a high chance that what you know is not what people want to pay for. So again, you need to find an audience to see what they are actually looking for
  • Got an idea, good...then what? Kindle, Video, Online seminar? But first you will want to plan what you will need to write/ share. Then start doing it. Format it right.
  • Once you do have your product you need to sell it. Do you go with an all in one payment processor like Amazon or do you use an ecourse provider, or sell it yourself? Again, each has their own plus and minuses.
  • How will you get people to the product?

Overall...

This post is not meant to make your bottom lip quibble or stop you from going ahead (if it was that easy to dissuade then you might not have really wanted it in the first place?).

It is meant to show you that if you want to go into any of the multiple "online selling ideas" then start with one that you enjoy- or could enjoy. Unfortunately it might take you a few goes to ultimately see, but you will know.

Then you go deep and find out everything you need to know about the niche and platform. MrBeast knows everything about Youtube, how to get visitors and how to maintain momentum- which is not an easy feat especially on Youtube. He started with Youtube, churned out videos, learned along the way and researched Youtube. It just wasn't an instant success.
