How Does A Niche Youtube Channel Go From Nothing To 10k Subs In A Few Months?

niche youtube channel

This is based off the niche Youtube channel of Strings and Sawdust. The channel is created by Matt from the UK and is a woodworking channel.

There seems to be quite a few "just start" Youtube channels. So we picked this one out of the mountain of channels. Why?

Because it is a super niche, seemed quite legit and the numbers are not huge. It's not like they earned 1m subs in 2 months or some other questionable stat.

So why is the channel connecting?

  • The woodworking is done in a shed- which seems to be where most amateur woodworkers would be
  • The "shed" is not filled with super powerful equipment. It is something that you might have bought to start woodworking
  • Matt seems to be talking with you, not at you. There is also an assumption that you are following Matt- giving you some of the fails that also happen with the projects
  • Matt also creates custom guitars. This seems to have spun off from the original videos in which Matt wanted to create a guitar

The main tips to create a Niche Youtube channel?

Actually there is just one at the end of the day. And that is just start.

Matt started with a cell phone video of his pursuits and him talking. Over time the videos have got better with Matt also finding a groove. This can be seen in his video views:

  • Roughly 700 views average for his first few videos
  • Then anything ranging from 2-10k/ video

All this has been done over the course of 6 months- starting in 2024, culminating in:

  • 12k subs
  • 44 videos

Matt noticed that when he got onto a schedule, started to pump out the videos then Youtube started to notice. People comment, interaction with the video starts and then Youtube will notice more.

MrBeast suggests 100 videos and then you start to see some progress. With each video a learning tool making the next video better.

And how did we notice Strings and Sawdust? It just popped up in our feed. We enjoyed looking at "Get Started" Youtube videos and this one appeared.

Can Strings And Sawdust do more?

This one is difficult because we are not into the woodworking or guitar niche at all. So we shall just look at this from an outsider. And remember, we are not saying bad, just trying to help.

  • Keep what you are doing, it seems to work- especially with the down-to-earth style, even the video quality and positions
  • Because you don't get the camera angles, maybe explain what you are doing especially of what we can not see
  • Building the guitar from scratch. Sure it might be a starter video. But learn from it. It is just talking and not showing. Can you re-do this video again and make it a series? When
  • Are you going to sell these custom guitars?
  • Change up your thumbnail. Pointy finger and face might be OK, but how do you know that other pictures could be better? Pointy finger could be a "thing" and you could run with it. Also your circular picture could change to be more of your logo- like a circular saw?
  • Nice that you respond to your comments. Is there any way you can do a commonly asked questions video. This might generate other questions in the comments which can be used to generate another video
  • Nice if you could link to the files/ templates for the engraver.
  • Plans and templates are good money makers if you can bundle them up together.
  • Maybe start to think about adding links like Facebook, X.com to start to amplify the message. Also track what you are upto day in day out without a video- or crank up the Shorts. However, be nice to see where your audience is and then start to hang around them more
  • Interviews with other woodworkers- local ones that are not online and "promote" their business. Interviews with other online woodworkers
  • Reacts videos do well
  • How different things are made in industry or how the wood is made? Just adds to the journey.

As per always, we hope Matt and Strings and Sawdust all the best.
